The Securities Commission of Papua New Guinea (SCPNGSCPNG Securities Commission of Papua New Guinea), in partnership with the Centre for Excellence in Financial Inclusion (CEFI), successfully concluded its participation in the Young Minds Savings Campaign held from August 27–29 across six schools in East New Britain Province.
The campaign, part of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) 2023–2027, aimed to instill financial literacy among primary and secondary school students, encouraging them to build a savings and investing mindset.
Mr. Danny Koka, NFIS – Manager for Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement, emphasized the importance of the Securities Commission’s participation in the campaign, stating that their involvement is crucial for the cultivation of future Capital Market Participants.
“The Securities Commission of Papua New Guinea (SCPNG) is proudly supporting the Young Minds Savings Campaign (YMSC), which is a vital initiative promoting financial literacy. SCPNG are there to educate students, teachers, and staff by demystifying capital markets, encouraging savings habits, and fostering future investors. This grassroots engagement strengthens public trust, builds inter-agency partnerships, and cultivates the next generation of financial leaders across PNGPNG Papua New Guinea.” — Mr. Danny Koka
“Students who learn to save and understand financial systems early are more likely to become active participants in PNG’s Capital Market. SCPNG helps nurture future entrepreneurs, investors, and financial leaders, directly contributing to economic growth.”
Mr. Leeroy Wambillie, Senior Licensing Officer of the Securities Commission, stated that SCPNG’s participation in the CEFI Campaign is to introduce students and teachers to the role of the Commission — regulating the capital market, protecting investors, and educating the public on financial concepts such as investments beyond just savings.
“I had to first explain what the Securities Commission is, what the capital markets are, and how both contribute to Papua New Guinea’s economic development. Ultimately, while the Young Minds Savings Campaign encourages students to save, our role is to make them aware of the options available to invest, build wealth, and grow their savings into capital.” — Mr. Leeroy Wambillie
